The journal was launched in 2011 with the title "Topical issues of innovative development". The Higher Attestation Commission of Ukraine is registered as a scientific professional publication in legal sciences (Certificate on state registration of the print media КВ № 17451-6201Р of January 19, 2011).
In 2013, in connection with the title change, the scientific and practical journal was re-registered with the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine under the title "Law and Innovations" (Certificate of state registration of the print media: Series КВ № 20353-10153 PR of November 5, 2013) and updated in the List of Scientific Professional Editions of Ukraine in Legal Sciences (Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine No. 409 of March 17, 2020).
In 2015, due to the change in the sphere of distribution, the scientific and practical journal was re-registered with the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine Certificate on state registration of the print media: Series КВ № 21739-11639 PR of November 24, 2015).
The mission of the scientific and practical journal Law and Innovations is to cover and explore the facets, aspects and paradigms of the modern innovation space in order to develop and improve the mechanisms of legal regulation of innovation in different spheres of social and economic life; providing authors with equal opportunities to publish the results of their research and to disseminate them freely in the global scientific space.
The purpose of the journal is to create the conditions for a specialized platform for authors to cover the results of their research. In particular, the disclosure of various aspects of innovative development and comprehensive social factors that affect innovation systems, as well as the exchange of scientific and practical experience.
Scientific areas: legal and innovative problems in the legal sciences, including civil, economic, labor, financial, administrative, criminal, international and other areas of law, as well as economic, sociological sciences, etc.
The main concept of «Law and Innovations» is to provide and stimulate the development of national legal science through the coverage of a wide range of doctrinal and practical aspects in the field of innovative development and national innovation system.
The articles cover the following fields of science and specialties: 081 Law, 072 Finance, Banking, Credit and Stock Market, 073 Management, 281 Public Administration and Management, 262 Law Enforcement.

The journal was included into the list of scientific professional editions of category B - 081 "Law" (Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine order № 409 of March 17, 2020).

The journal was also included in the scientific database of the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education – Polish Scholarly Bibliography (PBN) (Poland).
Law and Innovations was included into Information Matrix for the Analysis of Journals – MIAR (Spain). 
In July 2014, the journal was added to the international scientometric database Index Copernicus (IC), Poland. IC Journals Master List's international indexing database contains over 13,000 scientific journals from around the world.
