Abstract

Problem setting. Article is devoted: to the analysis of understanding tourist destination in the international and national regulations of Ukraine and Latvia, science guidelines and the most important criteria for tourist destinations. In modern literature on tourism, the concept of destination has been quite common lately, however, an analysis of the scientific works of foreign and domestic authors indicates a lack of consensus on the interpretation of tourist destinations as a scientific category.

Target of research. The purpose of this study an attempt to define the concept of «tourist destination».

Analysis of resent researches and publications. The following scientists were engaged in research of the specified question: N. V. Korzh, D. I. Basiuk, T. J. Luzhanska, A. F. Hukaliuk and others.

Article’s main body. The concept of “destination” is one of the fundamental concepts of the modern theory of tourism. The term “destination” is an official term of the UNWTO.

The UNWTO definition uses a number of arguments that aggravate the primary concept of the term: physical space, visitor, overnight, tourist product, tourist service, attraction, tourist resources, accessibility, image, perception, market, competitiveness. Most often, modern tourism specialists rely on this definition.

Conclusions. The analysis of scientific sources and regulations allows us to say that tourist destination is not any territory, the choice of which depends primarily on the personal motivation of the visitor. There are a number of criteria that this territory must meet: availability of transport accessibility; the availability of a range of tourism services of adequate quality to serve visitors; high level of development of tourist infrastructure, etc.
